MY BLOODY ILLNESS

  • Mood:

Just what i don't need to happen...

start a new job and my illness starts to kick in again, rushing to the loo every whip 'n' touch, no real solids going on here, but one hell of stink.

What is my illness?

It's called 'Ulcerative Colitis' a bowel complaint..look oit up if you are interested, a lot of people have the same illness, but it affects people in different ways. Anyone can get it, but you can not catch it from someone who has it. The worst thing about this illness is that it can lead to cancer if not treated early and kept under control...(medical check ups). Once you have this illness, you have it for life. Mine was ok for quite a while, but since starting work, it has flared up slightly, which i put down to the change i have had to make with my body clock..[working nights], it's the patern to what i have been used to. But now i will have to increase the pills i'm taking to steady the illness down. And these pills i need to take for life to help prevent me from getting bowel cancer...or so they say.

I want to work, i hate not working. work is giving me back a life, i don't wanna go back to hospital and be probed anymore and feel like crap for days/months on end. Anyway i will try my best to get back to work on wednesday night...i need to beat this bloody illness.

WTF IS GOING ON ?

  • Mood:

I have just had an e-mail from a band that has played in recent weeks (2) that are to play there again on August the 4th, saying that the in house PA, is down to one speaker and low on power.

This will be because they have let people use it and abuse it. and i bet they didn't charge them for it either. That's no way to run a business, if you want to be a music venue then look after your PA..or as is happening bands will turn away from doing gigs there.

As it is bands are staying away because there is hardly any crowd(s) showing up. So i can see this venue/pub dying on it's feet, still like i said at the start when too many promoters were brought in to work on the place..it's 'overkill'. in such a small town, in times where people don'nt have the money to come out and spend everynight, this sort of thing is bound to happen. It was good when it started, but now it's dying out. I'm glad i can't do anymore gigs there due to work, because i wiould be flogging a dead horse and flogging my guts out for what. I never made any money from those gigs and i've been doing it all on my own for ages. The stress factor on that level of getting the bands together, running the door, doing the PA, taking pics...it's far too much work for just one person.

Good luck to anyone who wants to take on the job of promoting in this deadend town.

Is it really worth the hassle?

  • Mood:

The gigs have not even started as yet and already the problems are starting to set in.

It's times like these that make me think is it really worth the hassle, why do i bother going out of my way to get bands to come down to this deadend town, when 1; The public can't be arsed to come along and support the nights. 2; The bands are all now starting to ask for silly payment, which as a single person on the dole i can't afford to pay. 3; Nicals really should put their money where their mouth is and pay the bands like most good venues/pubs do, even if it's just £40-50 to the headline act.

At least that way i would be able to get some of the bands that would pull the crowds in to play there, but why do i dream about things i know won't happen, maybe i should just forget the whole promotion thing or maybe take it to another town or venue/pub and do gigs once or twice a month there. At least then people will have something to look forward to, but as it goes there is nowhere in this town that would be big enough to have a good sized crowd turn out, apart from hiring out the public rooms which is going to cost a fortune now, and the town council are scared it will be damaged with all these people going in and out and dancing, jumping around to loud music. But that's Bodmin for you, you can't do anything that will bring people into the town and relieve the boredom and make some money for the council, because they are stuck in their ways and their ways are old-hat and out of date.

Welcome.

  • Mood: Excited!

Welcome to the new website blog, unlike the other blogs you can link to on this site, this one is about the promotion side of things..bands, gigs, deadhead promotions, etc...

Some posts may stray a little from the subject but that's just the way things go.

Anyway lets start this ball rolling by saying that DHP are coming back to the world of promotion with some great bands lined up to entertain and interest you. As we are doing Friday nights now, they will be known as 'Friday Rock Nights'. not always promoting just rock bands, but then again all music is rock 'n ' roll.

Deadhead Promotions will be putting on gigs on the first & last friday nights of each month, yes that's just two gigs a month, which i feel is more than enough for you lovely people to pop on out and see. I know not everyone can afford to go out everynight of the week, or even twice a week these days, prices are high and wages are low. Deadhead promotions is hoping that by doing gigs each end of the month we will catch most of those of you that have been payed and want to escape from it all by hearing some great new/old live music. Twice a month @ Nicals in Bodmin is wher you will find us from August 2006 onwards.

First gig is on August 4th: which starts a great rock band from Plymouth called GRIFTER, with support from the new TAKK. £3.00 entry, 8pm Start.

The second gig in August will be on August 25th with another fantastic rock band from Surrey called MISSALIGNED, with support from THE VARIOUS ASSORTMENTS...£3.00 entry / 8pm start.

Lets get this rock show on the road, and get nicals back on it's feet. c'mon people we need your support.
